Plane Crash Injures Two near Fairbanks International Airport

Passengers rushed to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (April 25, 2024) - Two people were injured Tuesday morning after a vintage plane crashed into the Tanana River near Fairbanks International Airport.

The Alaska State Troopers and Fairbanks Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash, which occurred around 11:30 a.m. According to the Troopers, the plane was a Douglas C-54 Skymaster that was carrying two people.

The passengers were identified as 72-year-old pilot John Smith of Fairbanks and 68-year-old passenger Jane Doe of Anchorage. Both Smith and Doe were transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
